Mirena IUD Have Been Linked To Severe Complications

Mifena – Mirena@ is an IUD that was originally approved by the FDA as an intrauterine contraceptive. lt was later approved as a treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding. It works by slowly releasing a low dose of levonorgestrel (a synthetic progestin hormone) directly into the uterus. Serious adverse side effects and potentially life-threatening complications have been reported following the implantation of the device. These complications include organ perforation, migration of the IUD to outside the uterus, expulsion of the lUD, and embedment in the uterus, among others.

Lawsuits against Bayer allege that the manufacturers knew about the risks associated with Mirena and failed to provide adequate warnings to women with the birth control device

Patients have experienced side effects of Mirena, such as:

  • Spontanous Migration or Movement of the IUD Birth Control
  • Uterine Perforation
  • Infections

If the IUD perforates and travels through the uterine wall, the Mirena may migrate to other parts of the body, leading to serious internal injuries, such as:

  • Perforation of the Intestines
  • Infection
  • Intestinal Obstruction
  • Adhessions
  • Abscesses
